A Proud Tradition

Grand Island Central Catholic has been proud to serve the Grand Island area for more than 55 years, beginning as a four-year high school. Since 1997, Central Catholic has been comprised of a middle school for grades 6-8 and a high school for grades 9-12.

We strive to provide the best possible preparation for our students to succeed in their goals for a higher education. Our administration and staff work hard to give your child “an edge” when it comes to being prepared for life beyond these walls. The success of our students is proof that we have earned our reputation as a college prep school.

Educational Focus

Students wearing medalsAs a middle school, we place emphasis on learning basic skills and exposing students to a wide variety of learning opportunities in a structured environment.

For high school, we offer a broad range of courses to meet the unique, individual needs of our students with respect to college prep, religion, and extracurricular opportunities.

Fine Arts and Activities

Crusaders love to sing, dance, draw, debate, and make an impact. We have something for everyone!

Service Opportunities

GICC students volunteer hundreds of hours each year to various organizations in Grand Island. Additionally, many students travel to do mission work beyond our state. Giving time and talent teaches our children that they can, and do, have a direct impact on their community and those whom they serve. Strive to go beyond a traditional education and give your child the opportunity to experience even more.

Both middle and high school students participate in religious instruction, an integral part of our curriculum. We incorporate Christian principles based upon Catholic tradition to promote moral and spiritual development into every phase of daily school life.

While we offer a Catholic faith-based education, we welcome students of all faiths to join together in this experience.

We offer our students a full range of academic and enrichment courses including Advanced Placement (AP) courses, tech prep and dual-credit courses, participation at Career Pathways Institute (CPI), and religious studies. Our low student to teacher ratio of 12:1 allows us to provide custom, individualized teaching and counseling opportunities.

We also offer various academic opportunities that help prepare our juniors and seniors for college and career success, including Advanced Placement, Tech Prep, and dual-credit college courses, and distance learning classes (available for most grades). Course Credits and College Level Options

Course credits are primarily determined by the number of class periods per week. English, history, math, science, and foreign language courses are typically 5 credits per semester. The majority of the required courses are offered daily as a yearlong course. Course credits vary from 1-5 credits per semester (2-10 per year). Test prep, senior seminar, and aides receive only pass/fail evaluation and are not included in a student’s GPA.

Duke Tip Achievers

Every year, we have 7th graders qualify for Duke Tip. This national award is based on high ACT scores as 7th graders. GICC is very proud of our middle school students!
