Academic News

7th grade Our amazing Crusaders out did themselves again! We had seven 7th graders qualify for Duke Tip. This award is based on high ACT scores as 7th graders. There were 430 students in Nebraska that qualified for this award, and we had seven. GICC is very proud of our middle school students!

Core Academics

We offer our students a full range of academic and enrichment courses including Advanced Placement (AP) courses, tech prep courses, and religious studies. Our low student to teacher ratio of 12:1 allows us to provide custom, individualized teaching and counseling opportunities. Course Credits

Course credits are primarily determined by the number of class periods per week. English, history, math, science, and foreign language courses are typically 5 credits per semester. The majority of the required courses are offered daily as a yearlong course. Course credits vary from 1-5 credits per semester (2-10 per years). Dual-credit college courses, available to juniors and seniors, makes us one of the most exceptional Catholic high schools in Central Nebraska. Test prep, senior seminar, and aides receive only pass/fail evaluation and are not included in a student’s GPA.

Central Catholic has the reputation as an outstanding Grand Island college prep high school, which requires 228 credit hours in grades 9-12 for graduation, but students typically graduate with between 250-300 credit hours - each student must carry 30 credit hours per semester.

Spirituality

All students participate in weekly Mass and explore their faith in theology courses. While we offer a Catholic faith-based education, this Grand Island private school welcomes students of all faiths to join together in this experience.

Service Opportunities

Central Catholic students volunteer hundreds of hours each year to various organizations in Grand Island. Many students travel to do mission work beyond our state and even in other countries. Giving of their time and talent teaches our children that they can, and do, have a direct impact on their community and those whom they serve. Athletics and Extracurricular Activities

Grand Central students compete in a variety of athletic and extracurricular programs. Participation in these activities develops leadership, camaraderie, a healthy spirit of competitiveness, and confidence.
