The Crusader Way
Our "Crusader Way" time has been a program we have been tweaking. It started out as an anti-bullying program that GICC is very passionate about. However, since anti-bullying has such a negative note, our school is choosing to focus on respect and positive life skills towards others.
We put students into small groups each Wednesday for a half hour to discuss different topics, watch videos, plan projects, etc.
This year we have assigned a grade level class to each month for planning. Faculty sponsors lead the students. The students know what's going on with each other around the school, and we believe that's the best way to find topics and projects to cover. It lets them work together to build more unity, responsibility, and ownership in what is happening in their student community.
Mrs. Hanssen is posting a Bible verse each week with the theme and the morning prayers, which start out our day and go along with the theme.
Central Catholic is all about giving. As part of the December Crusader Way, Central Catholic students donated socks and gloves to “The Giving Tree." This week, teacher Deb Scheel and four 8th grade students delivered the box of donated items to Hope Harbor. Way to go GICC!
Theme - The sophomore class has October. We had a meeting with the entire sophomore class and they chose to pick the Golden Rule as their overall theme of the month.
Project - The class planned a trunk or treat as a school wide project to get students together, have fun, and to do something for the community and parishes. Students decorated their cars in the GICC parking lot and handed out treats to all kids who came in costume! It was a great night!
Crusader Way Class Time - They decided topics to discuss with the theme in mind.
- For example - How do you treat others according to their appearance?
Sponsoring Teachers - Mrs. Dee Hanssen, Mr. Dick Ross, and Mr. Roy Emory
